Improve the appearance of acne scarring, chickenpox scars, ice pick scars, and raised scars with multiple treatment options.
Living with the scarring that oftentimes results from acne, chicken pox and/or surgery can take a serious toll on a patient’s mental health. In response, we offer several scar treatment options at our Eagan and Woodbury clinics. While no procedure is available for total scar removal, reducing the noticeability or appearance of scars is possible and can have a significant positive impact on some individuals. A variety of treatment options such as laser treatment, dermabrasion, re-excision, or micro-pigmentation may be used to minimize the appearance of scars.
Scarring can happen for several reasons. In cases such as acne, the infection below the skin causes our white blood cells to attack the bacteria, but they also destroy some healthy tissue at the same time, resulting in a depressed scar. Chickenpox scars are caused in much the same way. In other cases, a scar may be raised due to trauma to the skin from the outside, such as a cut. After assessing your scarring, your physician will discuss which of our treatment options is most appropriate to get you the best results.
In some cases a combination approach may be recommended. For example, a vascular laser may be used to reduce red, raised scars, while an ablative laser may be used to smooth out or contour irregularities caused by the scars. Dermabrasion, or smoothing the surface of the scar and surrounding tissue, is another frequently used tool, especially for those seeking acne scar removal. Which methods are used depends on several key factors regarding your scar and possibly may include all of the above mentioned treatment options.
