Dare to go bare and ditch your razor with Laser Hair Reduction

Imagine confidently going to the beach this Summer and not worrying about whether or not you had shaved that morning. Next, think about how much time you would save if you didn’t need to shave your legs in the shower or make monthly trips to an esthetician to get your back waxed. Last, do the math on how much money you would save if you didn’t have to buy costly razor replacement cartridges each month. These reasons and MORE have caused hundreds of thousands of people to ditch their razors for Laser Hair Reduction and embrace smooth, soft skin that stays hair free for good!

According to the National Cosmetic Surgery Data Bank Statistics, over 1,035,783 laser hair reduction procedures were performed in 2016 alone. This makes it in the top 5 of all non-surgical cosmetic treatments for the past decade. Much of this is due to the fact that BOTH men and women can benefit from Laser Hair Reduction and it has continued to become more effective, safe, fast and comfortable.

Benefits include:

  • 80-90% hair reduction, if not complete removal in some cases
  • soft, smooth skin year round
  • reduction in ingrown hairs and razor burn
  • control and maintenance of excessive hair growth from certain medical conditions
  • improved self confidence
  • time efficiency
  • cost effectiveness

So how does this technology work? First, you must understand a little bit about how lasers work. A true laser is one congruent beam of light that, based on its wavelength, targets a specific thing, such as blood, water, or melanin in skin. In the case of Laser Hair Reduction, the wavelength of light targets the pigment in your hair follicle. Because the laser is attracted to pigment, the best candidates for Laser Hair Reduction are lighter skinned individuals with no active tan to their skin who have dark hair (no blonde, grey or translucent hair). Once a pulse of the laser is administered to a hair; the hair absorbs the energy and follicles are disabled from growing fully again. With each subsequent treatment, the ability of those follicles to regenerate new hair is disabled more and more.

Because our hair has several growth cycles and each is different, dependent on location on the body, multiple treatments are needed to catch each active growth cycle. This leads to up to 80% reduced hair growth, and sometimes, a reduction in the thickness and the texture of any returning hair. Many patients experience more reduction if not complete clearance of any existing hair, but this is dependent upon the individual’s response.

Patients often describe the sensation of the laser like a light rubber band snap gliding across the treatment area. Lasers vary in both action and sensation from brand to brand and it is important to inquire about the training and medical directorship of your laser hair reduction provider. It is common to have some redness and swelling after a treatment for up to 48 hours, but as the next two weeks progress, and the next growth cycle of hair begins to surface, any treated hairs will fall out or “shed.”

Treatments are often sold in packages and are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Each time a patient returns for treatment they will notice less and less regrowth. On average, each laser treatment reduces active hair growth by 10-25%. Annual maintenance treatments are recommended to ensure soft, smooth and even skin all year round!
