Patient #257645

May is skin cancer awareness month. This patient presented to us with a defect of the left ala (nostril) after having MOH surgery for a basal cell carcinoma by our colleagues at @dermmn.

Dr. Farhood performed the reconstruction using the patient’s ear cartilage for support and an interpolated melolabial flap to provide new skin covering. This surgery was done in 2 stages separated 3 weeks apart to allow the flap to develop a new blood supply to the surrounding nasal skin. Although it required some patience on the patient’s part, the cosmetic result is excellent at 6 months noted by the symmetry and contour of the left nostril compared to the right.

Performed by: Dr. Farhood
