Question: Why were you initially drawn to a career in medicine?
Answer: My father-in-law is an Infectious Disease specialist in Milwaukee, and seeing his passion and love for his job made me want to pursue medicine.
Question: What was the catalyst for you choosing to specialize in Otolaryngology and Facial Plastics / Reconstructive Surgery? What inspires you about this specialty?
Answer: During my residency, I found myself most fascinated with rhinoplasty, which led me to pursue facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. I loved the challenge and complexity that each nose brought to the table and how the combinations of several techniques are required to improve both nasal breathing and the esthetic appearance of the nose. Arguably my favorite part of rhinoplasty is “the reveal” postoperatively, and being able to see how much a patient’s quality of life and self-image is improved.
Many patients lack self-confidence in their appearance, but facial plastic surgery is often clouded with stigma. This is often due to the celebrities we see in the media who have had surgical or non-surgical treatments that resulted in an unnatural appearance. As a result, patients have many misconceptions about how these treatments work, so they are very reluctant to pursue them. I aim to educate and inform anyone interested in improving their facial appearance about all options that are available to them and which are most appropriate for their goals.
Question: You completed your fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the renowned Langsdon Clinic in Memphis Tennessee under the direction of Dr. Phillip Langsdon, the current President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. What were your areas of focus during this training?
Answer: My fellowship training under Dr. Phillip Langsdon was focused on cosmetic facial plastic surgery. I am extensively trained in both non-surgical (Botox, dermal filler, laser skin resurfacing) and surgical treatments (facelift, necklift, eyelid surgery, browlift, fat grafting) for facial rejuvenation. My goal is to provide my patients with natural-appearing results and excellent patient care.
Question: Are there particular surgeries or procedures that you especially love or enjoy performing? If so, why?
Answer: In addition to rhinoplasty, I also enjoy performing facelifts and other procedures for the aging face. There’s nothing more satisfying than turning back the clock and giving a patient their own natural youthful appearance again.
Question: Do you have a particular philosophy or belief about medicine and your chosen specialty?
Answer: Treat every patient like they are your own family. Every patient should have a high level of comfort and trust in their doctor, which is especially true within facial plastic surgery. I want all of my patients to feel like they can rely on me before, during, and after surgery to make sure their experience is nothing short of excellent.
Question: What impact do you think Facial Plastic Surgery can have on a patient’s life?
Answer: Facial plastic surgery can have an enormous impact on a patient’s life. From reconstructive surgeries that improve nasal breathing and repair skin cancer defects to cosmetic surgeries to correct droopy eyelids or a heavy brow – facial plastic surgery has the power to drastically improve a patient’s quality of life and self-confidence.
Question: What are your interests and hobbies when you step outside the doors of Midwest Facial Plastic Surgery and FACE Cosmetic Skincare?
Answer: I spend most of my time outside of work with my wife, two kids, and our golden retriever. I’m also an avid golfer and rate golf courses for Golfweek Magazine.
