Summer Safe Skin Treatments

Enhance your skin’s health and appearance without shunning the sun!

If you’re skincare savvy, you know that many advanced treatments like laser skin rejuvenation and chemical peels aren’t always the safest procedures to have performed in the Summer months.  Treatments like these can make skin especially sensitive to the harmful UV rays the sun emits and the warmer temperatures we experience from June through August.  As a result, there is a risk that sun exposure on freshly lasered or peeled skin can cause pigment damage (hyperpigmentation), increased inflammation, and additional complications. But, that doesn’t mean you have to press the pause button on improving the health and appearance of your skin during Summer.  Let’s take a look at three skincare treatments that allow you to continue your journey to better skin regardless of what season it is!

Dermablading

“I love transitioning my chemical peel patients to dermablading during the Summer months,” says Sara, an Advanced Practice Esthetician with FACE Cosmetic Skincare.  “Dermablading keeps skin looking fresh and radiant for special occasions like weddings and graduations that tend to pop up during Summer,” she continues, “but because no chemicals are involved, you can still enjoy the sun as long as you wear a daily SPF.”

Dermablading is a form of physical, or mechanical exfoliation. This means no chemicals, like glycolic acid, are used to cause skin cells to detach from the skin’s surface via a chemical reaction. Your licensed esthetician will use a rounded scalpel blade held at a 45-degree angle to your skin to skillfully remove dead skin cell build-up through a series of short, light strokes. What has gained dermablading a legion of loyal fans is that the treatment also removes all facial hair (vellus hair), or “peach fuzz.” As a result, your skin is left feeling unbelievably soft and smooth, and the perfect canvas is created for flawless makeup application.

HydraFacial MD®

“Summer get really busy for a lot of my patients,” says Sara.  “With all of the graduations, weddings, reunions, and family weekends up at the lake they need treatments that are time sensitive, but still pack a punch.  Our 4 -in-1 HydraFacial does just that!”

A basic, 30 to 45-minute HydraFacial treatment begins with a water-based cleansing solution being blasted onto the skin to break up the topmost layer of build-up. The unique spiral suction tip of the HydraFacial device lifts away surface debris and is later used to painlessly extract blackheads and microfilaments from pores. Next, your skin is bathed in a light chemical peel to enhance exfoliation and improve skin’s clarity and tone. The end of your HydraFacial consists of a pressurized infusion of treatment serums customized to the needs of your skin. All of these steps are delivered in a hydrating, water-based solution. As you can imagine, the HydraFacial delivers an impressive amount nourishing hydration to the skin and clients love how their complexion glows after the treatment is complete!

SkinPen® Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy)

If you’re diligent about wearing a daily SPF and are willing to shade your face for a few days after treatment by wearing a hat, SkinPen® Microneedling may be your ultimate Summer skincare go-to. Growing in popularity by the day, Microneedling rejuvenates skin by creating small, controlled injuries to your skin’s surface with tiny, painless, vibrating needles. This action kickstarts your body’s wound healing response and stimulates your skin’s production of collagen and elastin. In doing so, SkinPen® treatments gradually improve skin’s texture, tone, firmness, and overall health.

“SkinPen® Microneedling is such a fantastic treatment because any skin type, skin condition, and skin concern can benefit from it,” says Sara.  “If a patient is concerned about acne scarring, fine lines, enlarged pores, and/or crepey skin around their eyes or on their neckline – I usually turn to SkinPen® first.  Your skin will be slightly red for a day or two after treatment, but I feel very comfortable performing microneedling during the Summer for patients who are rock stars about sun protection.”

So, if you’ve hit the pause button on scheduling any treatments this Summer, you may want to reconsider and schedule a consultation to discuss dermablading, SkinTyte II™, or SkinPen® microneedling. Don’t let the sun prevent you from seeing an improvement to your skin’s health and appearance all year round!
