Smooth acne scars, diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and boost your skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin with SkinPen® Microneedling.

Your skin’s appearance can have a dramatic affect on your self-esteem. Our battle with acne from our youth may still haunt us in the form of acne scarring. And premature fine lines and wrinkles may make us look older than we actually feel. SkinPen® Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that can address ALL of these concerns and more, while leaving your skin smooth and healthy with virtually no downtime!

What is SkinPen?

SkinPen is a medical-grade, state-of-the-art tool, which is available only through licensed skincare professionals working under medical supervision. This procedure has been practiced for around 20 years.

The “pen” has a disposable tip that is composed of 14 surgical-grade stainless steel needles, hence the process being called “Microneedling.” Microneedling is also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) or Percutaneous Collagen Induction (PCI).

How Does SkinPen Microneedling Work?

Microneedling works by gently creating hundreds of microscopic channels into the dermis as the pen safely glides over your skin. When skin is injured, it heals itself by creating new collagen and elastin. These are the very components of our skin that breakdown with scarring, sun damage and aging and can lead to uneven skin texture. As a result, SkinPen® controls the rate of injury to safely and predictably encourage new collagen and elastin production, leaving your skin smoother and healthier over time!

The process also involves application of serums that nourish the skin. The microchannels created in the skin allow for deeper permeation of these serums into the skin layers, leading to increased effectiveness. If a patient has sensitive skin, they will have to be careful while applying any topical serum or ointment.

Ideal Candidates For SkinPen Treatment

Most people are good candidates for this procedure. Patients with active infections or open wounds are not ideal candidates and must first address these issues.

People with active acne are requested to stay away from this procedure, since it can irritate sensitive areas, making them inflamed and spreading bacteria. Patients with active acne will have to wait for their skin to clear up so that they can undergo this treatment.

SkinPen Microneedling is extremely versatile due to its non-ablative, non-thermal and fractionated approach. The areas of the body that can be treated are the neck, face, hands, chest, and back. Patients can also combine this treatment with other skin therapies.

SkinPen is also one of the few resurfacing treatments that is safe for darker skin types, as the risk of hyperpigmentation is very low. In addition, the micro channels that the treatment creates, increases the rate of absorption and effectiveness of any subsequent products placed on the skin.

The SkinPen Treatment Process

Prior to SkinPen Microneedling, your treatment area will be numbed with a topical agent to ensure comfort during your procedure. Your Licensed Esthetician will apply a hydrating serum to your skin as she glides the SkinPen over your areas of concern. Our patients find the treatment completely comfortable and some even describe the sensation as a mild “tickling” or “prickling” feeling.

SkinPen Aftercare

After your treatment your skin may be slightly red for up to 3 days. For most patients, this redness subsides within 24 hours. Once your topical numbing has worn off, you may feel a slight tingling sensation, like a sunburn or windburn. You can resume wearing makeup the day after your treatment, making it an easy procedure to fit into anyone’s social calendar! The skin usually has a rosy glow once the procedure is done.

Your Face Cosmetic Skincare Esthetician will recommend specific skincare guidelines to you prior to, and following your treatment. These include the use of topical retinoids, sun exposure and precautions with pregnancy.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

A full series of SkinPen treatments, spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart, is recommended to see optimal results, yet most patients see improvement in as little as three treatments.
